RIYADH — U.S. State Department praised on Tuesday Saudi Arabia’s role in hosting talks between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, under the auspices Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, in Riyadh.
In her regular press briefing, which was published by the U.S. State Department, Spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated that the United States seeks to end the fighting and achieve peace.
“We have agreed to establish a consultation mechanism to address issues causing disruptions in our bilateral relations. This aims at taking necessary steps to normalize the work of our diplomatic missions, and to appoint high-level teams from both countries to start working on a path leading to a swift, permanent, and sustainable resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, acceptable to all parties,” Bruce said.
She noted that this will also lay the foundation for future cooperation on geopolitical issues of mutual interest and historic economic and investment opportunities that will arise from successfully resolving the conflict in Ukraine. “The parties participating in today’s meetings have committed to continued engagement to ensure the process moves forward swiftly and productively,” Bruce said.
